The Valhalla Hills Nordic Ski Club promotes cross-country skiing in the North Slocan Valley. We groom and maintain approximately 12km of trail, 4km of the rail trail in Hills, BC and 8+kms at Valhalla Hills Ski Trails midway between Nakusp and New Denver (24km:24km).
For all date and timetable information, please go to ‘Kids Programs’
Non Members welcome
You don’t have to be a member to use the trails we groom, but we ask that you sign the liability release form at the trail head and leave us $10 to help us cover the cost of plowing the parking lot, and grooming the trails. Just because we do not have a person collecting fees does not mean we don’t have any expenses. After 15-20 cm of snow our grooming costs are about $225 between fuel, machinery and the operator. One lot plowing costs us about $100.

Thinking about moving to the area and checking what the area has to
offer?
Our club is open and welcoming to more membership. We offer trails groomed for
skate and classic skiing and some or our trails offer a more playful design
than are normally seen at BC ski areas. Our youth program would welcome more kids
and parents that would like to assist in
Yes, Volunteer!
Bring a pole saw and cut some side branches that hang over the trail! The Rail Trail could use side branch removal patrols.
Contact Kip at 250-358-2660 if you want more specifics. We would love your help!
PS. We have a goal of not just improving our grooming efficiency and standard by purchasing any snow cat, we are in the pursuit of an electric snow cat (They are coming out next year). To do this we need matching funds upwards of $40,000-80,000. If you would like to contribute please contact one of our board members. Anonymous donations are accepted.

Hey skiers, as of 8am Dec 20 main power line trail is groomed and mostly track set. All side loops have been snowmobile packed and one pass with groomer has been made on loop above parking lot. Hope to get back to finish grooming by morning of Dec 21. Thanks for being patient with the new guy on the groomer. Wes.
All trails groomed and ready for action. Have fun!
Dear Valhalla Nordic ski club
We are touring the west kootenays and are hopping from xc ski trail to xc ski trail. We luckily found your trails near summit lake today. We really lucked out as one of your volunteers had just finished grooming. We skied every inch of your trails and loved it. I was a ski coach with my kids in the 2000s in Kamloops at stake lake trails. Your hilly black trails are the best “terrain park” I have ever seen for xc skiers. You did an amazing job laying out those trails and then clearing them. We had so much fun……. and we are in our early 50s. Your kids are lucky to have such dedicated parents and volunteers to make this happen. Your trail building skills are fantastic. The Ginsu also works great on the trails.
Happy skiing,
Klaus and Rachel
We have enjoyed the trails so much this year. Thanks for the great maps and we love the new signs. The whole project is so well done. Many thanks!

Thanks for the great feedback.
First ski of the season on the rail trail yesterday. All packed and groomed and in great shape. And it’s still November! Thanks so much…
